Creating a colour palette that flows throughout a home

Choosing colours for a home is about far more than deciding what works within a single room.

The real challenge is understanding how each space relates to the next, creating a home that feels connected rather than a series of individual decorating decisions.

For this East Sussex family home, I was asked to advise on colour throughout the property, from a colour-drenched artist's studio and earthy bathroom to paint colours for the woodwork and architectural details that quietly tie the whole scheme together.

Alongside the colour palette, I specified fabric for bespoke dining area blinds and suggested one architectural change that transformed the way the house connects with the garden. By replacing an underused lean-to with timber bi-fold doors, we were able to flood the kitchen with natural light while creating a much stronger relationship between the house and the outdoor space.

One of the things I enjoy most about colour consultations is looking beyond individual paint charts and considering the home as a whole. The colours we choose influence not only how each room feels, but how we experience moving through the house from one space to the next.
