Designing a retreat for rest and reflection
Set within the grounds of my client's North London home, this purpose-built retreat was designed as a peaceful environment for holistic practitioners and their clients. The aim wasn't to create a space that felt obviously 'wellness' or spa-like, but somewhere that felt calm, welcoming and restorative from the moment you stepped inside.
Rather than relying on one statement colour, the palette unfolds gently throughout the retreat. Muted greens, soft terracottas and warm neutrals are paired with natural materials including linen, wool, timber, marble and woven rattan, creating an atmosphere that feels grounded and quietly luxurious.
The open-plan living space, bedroom and ensuite bathroom were all designed as one cohesive experience. Botanical wallpaper, gentle greens and tactile finishes are repeated throughout, allowing each room to feel connected while retaining its own character.
I believe the most calming interiors aren't created through colour alone. They're created when colour, texture, light and natural materials work together to create spaces where people instinctively slow down and feel at ease.
